It’s Friday…wooohooo! And my baby girl flies back home today….double wooohooo! So, let’s do something meaningful, and fun (or potentially fun – LOL).
Every year during one of my classes, I ask my students to make a list of some of their favorite material and non-material things. I think the list gives them an opportunity to reflect about what it is, or isn’t, they are focusing their time on. I got the idea from one of my writing courses. Anyway, since sharing thoughts, ideas, finds and inspiration is what blogs are all about, I share with you here some of my favorite things, and invite you to reflect on yours. Now, won’t you please share them too?
Some of my favorite things, in no particular order:
– the warmth of the sun on my skin
– watches, especially those that tic-toc loud
– spending time with my family
– rainy days
– dark chocolate
– traveling, everywhere and anytime – hiking in our National Parks – talking out loud w/God
– writing
– birthdays, mine and other people’s
– teaching ccd
– silence
– long hugs w/Danny and Lauren
– sitting downstairs in my building in the morning to read or whatever
– sunsets
– flying with my brother
– baseball
– crossword puzzles
– giving greeting cards (especially for no reason in particular)
– mom’s torrejas (Spanish style french toast)…yum
– reading
– daisies – photography, totally
– helping someone
– long bike rides on Sunday mornings with my hubby
– the beach, and the hypnotic sound of the waves crashing
– the holidays, especially Thanksgiving
– blogging
– spending time with friends
– the feel of a freshly cleaned house
– cats – baby scent
– café Cubano
Your turn. C’mon, at least some. : )
This is very beautiful, Connie – – your life appears to be very complete in every way and your happiness lies in the “simple” things that make us appreciative for everything we possess. It takes a very observant eye to realize that the materialistic things don’t pan out in the end and that it’s the everyday miracles that truly affect our souls and make us realize that we can all live in harmony, if we just acknowledge the blessings that surround us all!
Love ya,
Joyce
Connie – So glad to hear Lauren will be on her way back home today. I’m sure it was an awesome experience for her!
Thanks for sharing your favorite things with us. Some of mine are (just at random — not in order of preference):
-the smell of coffee brewing
-the smell of rain – some say that’s the smell of Jesus
-spending time with my hubby and kids
-Saturday nights (family night when we go to church and make a whole evening of it)
-horses!
-cats
-rainbows (they still amaze me!)
-the mountains
-drawing, painting…anything artsy
-helping those in need
-giving gifts (usually something simple — just to say I’m thinking about that person)
-random acts of kindness (like paying the toll for the person behind you)
-finding something and returning it to the person who lost it (so much sweeter than keeping it for yourself – believe me)
-cool evenings when our Florida weather FINALLY changes! (Connie, I’m sorry, I know you don’t like the cold weather)
-dark chocolate — oh, yes!
-cookies
-warm brownies with vanilla ice cream – yum!
-cashews, macadamia nuts, pecans
-key lime pie/pecan pie — it’s a tie
-rainy days spent watching movies with my hubby bundled up under the covers with the a/c cranked up
-sleeping when it’s raining
-napping on the beach (in the shade of course!) with the soothing sound of the waves
-doing something myself instead of hiring someone (this drives my hubby crazy! but I can’t help myself– it’s just so satisfying)
Good list Sandy. I like it. : )
Thanks!
LOVED this and loved Sandy’s comments, as well. Okay, here’s some of mine:
– Getting home after battling traffic, lighting my candles and making dinner.
– Getting home on Friday and knowing I can cocoon for the next 2 days.
– Morning prayer, because it just makes the day a whole lot nicer.
– Spending time with my friends, whether in person, via email, regular mail or phone.
– Bosses who understand, keep calm and explain things more than once.
– Waking up to find my cats in bed with me, stretching as if to say good morning.
– Baking brownies.
– Decorating the containers for the brownies with glitter and then giving them to someone near and dear.
– Learning someone really liked my brownies.
– Writing palancas.
– Laughing.
– Rainy days at home … Bliss.
– Going to a book reading with a dear friend and talking about the book later.
– Books that feed your soul.
– Old black and white movies.
– Roses, white roses in particular.
– Home. Just being home.
– Going to church when there’s no one there and just sitting in the peace and quiet.
– Paying the toll for the person behind me and their waving at me with a huge smile on their face. Sometimes it’s the smallest acts that make or break you.
– Reading my grandmother’s journal.
– Watching some silly movie on Saturday mornings, cats all around me, big mug of cafe con leche in hand.
– The smell of just brewed Cuban coffee, smells like home.
– Surprising a friend with something I’ve been working on for a long time.
– Hearts.
– Sketching, drawing, decoupaging.
– Photography, love taking those pictures!
– My mom’s rosary she used for her First Communion, always have it with me.
– Hershey’s Kisses … yum!
– Barnes and Noble.
– Early mornings spent at home.
– Pumpkin pie in the oven, don’t eat it, I just like the smell of it. My neighbors get the pie, they loooove me.
– Grocery shopping at Publix, yes, I know, I’m weird.
– Cooking/baking for my nears and dears.
– Writing in my journal.
– Puttering around the house, rearranging things.
– Decorating for the holidays.
– When I finish cleaning the house and you get a whiff of Pine-Sol, reminds me of when my Mom would do the same thing Saturday mornings.
– La Orquesta Aragon (original) on the CD player as I am cleaning my wee nest.
– Helping someone anonymously, I love that!
– Reconnecting with friends.
– Black beans, white rice and yuca with mojo!
Great list Barb, thanks for participating! Those book readings are great, aren’t they? So are your brownies. : )
Barbie – Loved your list, too. I can just smell those brownies baking! Yum!
