For our moms’ cooking. Okay, it’s no secret I can’t cook (or don’t like to, I should say…okay no I really can’t). But, I’ve got a mom and a mother-in-law who rock the kitchen. Thank the Lord! For them both. “I read recipes the same way I read science fiction. I get to the end…

For birthdays. I love them. A day when we can have our cake and eat it too! Sure, some are more exciting than others, and some are downright scary. But, at home we’ve always been big on birthdays. We don’t just celebrate each other’s “day,” we celebrate each other’s “month.” Our doorbell plays the birthday tune pretty much the whole year. Sort of a reminder that we should celebrate life every day and thank God for the time we get with the ones we love….

Here’s a Thankful Thursdays challenge – Today, I invite you to express your gratitude to someone…. [Not much challenge in that, you say? Okay, but I wasn’t finished]… express your gratitude in a way that, well, you could say has gone out the window: in written form…. [Piece of cake, you say? I’m still not finished]…and do it in tangible written form. [cricket, cricket]….

That we have Angels who walk beside us. Two of mine: my dad and sister. Gone too soon, each an August like this one, some time ago. I love and miss them more than any words can tell. Thankful today, and always, for my Angels, and the hope that keeps them close….

For el cafecito – that sweet octane with espumita that lifts spirits and an aroma worth bottling. [Yes, soy Cubana, and Café Cubano runs through my veins]. Thankful (particularly on this rain-induced sleepy day) for this tradition, among many, and especially grateful for the times spent enjoying los cafecitos with family and friends….

Thankful for the half-full I’ve been given; praying for the refills to keep coming; hopeful ’bout the half that will follow. Keep the faith my friends….

Thankful for the freedom I celebrate this day, something that is only a dream for so many. Grateful to those who have fought to protect it every day since those initial shots were fired in a Massachusetts field long ago. Indebted to the two (mom and dad) who sacrificed everything to get me here….
