Remember those “Corona house arrest” days when we were all searching for projects to stay sane? Danny and I spent part of that time digging through old VHS tapes and mini cassettes to digitize them. Before long, we were laughing, crying, and reliving birthdays, vacations, holidays, and everyday moments we hadn’t seen in decades. It turned out to be one of the greatest gifts we could have given our family.
This Thankful Thursday, I have to give a huge shout out to my brother, who has now taken things even further by tackling the monumental project of digitizing our old home movie reels. Yes, reels! As in pre-digital era footage. We’re talking memories going back decades. My brother was always the one with a movie camera in tow, capturing moments none of us realized at the time would someday become treasures.
He’s now transferring the reels, adding background music, titles, and credits, turning them into beautiful little family documentaries. Spielberg watch out! Every time a new one arrives, we can’t wait to watch it.
Old family videos really should be on everyone’s must-see list. It’s always fun seeing yourself 30, 40, or 50 years younger, but the real treasure is seeing loved ones who are no longer here. Priceless. And such a reminder of how incredibly blessed we’ve already been. I’m sharing a couple of frames below. Me riding the Skyway at Magic Kingdom in 1974, and my parents, sister, and me strolling through Lummus Park in Miami Beach in 1973. ❤️ I wish I could play you the entire movies.
Guys, really, take a break from streaming. Play some of those family oldies instead. Trust me, it gives a whole new meaning to “movie night.”
So today I’m feeling especially grateful for family members who understand how important it is to preserve these memories before time slips further away. Keep them coming, brother!
What are you thankful for today?
Until next Thursday’s post…si Dios quiere.
“I took a stroll down memory lane today, not to be saddened by the people
that I have lost, but to be grateful for the memories that I shared with them.
I took a stroll down memory lane today to the hear the voices and see the
faces….I am thankful that I have their words to hear again.
I took a stroll down memory lane today. I have done it before and will do
it many times more.”

Thanks my Sis
It means a lot to me and I will keep doing it Si Dios Quiere until I digitize all our important films
There is the 16mm that I shot in Cuba ( my very first film) and of course the one from Spain while we were living there…. But those I am leaving for last since the condition of those films are very delicate and they fall into the “HANDLE WITH CARE” department
Te quiero mucho and those stills that you posted are great!!!
Que me dices del Radio – Tocadiscos que llevas en la mano ????
The Boom Box of 1973 🤣🤣
Wow! What a wonderful idea. I agree. Nice to revisit memories with family and friends. Have a great long weekend!!
