Yesterday I had lunch with one of my oldest friends. And when I say old, I mean we’ve been friends since the 80s!
Believe me when I tell you, some friendships really are timeless. You might not see each other very often. Life gets busy, and then one day you realize, “Pero, when was the last time we saw each other?!”
Yesterday was a perfect example. We agreed to meet at our usual lunch spot, the same place we’ve been going to for about 20 years. We both showed up, stood in front of the restaurant, but the place was boarded up. Turns out, the restaurant was closed for renovations and had moved to a new location. Fortunately, it was only a block away. Apparently, we missed the memo. LOL.
But once we finally sat down, it was like no time had passed. And that’s the beautiful thing about old friendships. You can go months or even years without seeing each other, but when you do, you’re right back where you left off. Just good conversation, lots of laughs, and probably a few stories that should stay at the lunch table. 😂
Something extra new this time? We didn’t split the bill. She treated me to lunch to celebrate me becoming a grandmother. Jeeze, this girl went to my wedding for heaven’s sake! How lucky am I to have a friend who has been around for THAT long and is still here for all the new chapters? What a blessing that is.
Today, I’m thankful for my old friend Vicky. And for friendships that somehow manage to survive decades, busy lives, and all the craziness that life brings.
Some things really do get better with age. ❤️
What are you thankful for today?
Until next Thursday’s post…si Dios quiere.

Wow!! you never seize to amaze me! I’m touched that I made it into your “Thankful Thursdays.” What a treat! I feel the same way my friend, Some friendships stand the test of time and everything that comes with it. As we contemplate other chapters of our future lives I hope we continue our tradition of having lunch at our usual spot or who knows maybe we’ll get a new one. This is what I’m thankful for today.
Cheers to that, my friend!
This made me tear up. Must be the hormones 😆. That’s a beautiful thing to see. Happy you both got to finally meet up! Guess we both got to meet up with old friends this week ♥️
