Compassion is a loaded word. More on that later.
Meantime, I’m just going to say it… I HATE waiting at doctor’s appointments! Seems like no matter how early you get there, you’re always waiting. And once they finally put you in an exam room, there’s MORE waiting! So, rather than sit there staring at the walls, I usually head for the window to see what’s going on outside.
So yesterday, there I was, watching people come and go. Some alone. Some with someone else.
And as I watched, I started thinking about how every single person I saw had a story.
Someone might have been there for a routine checkup. Someone else might have been worried sick about a loved one. Maybe someone had just received good news, or waiting to hear something they dreaded.
And I had no clue about any of it.
How often do we see people every day without having the slightest idea what’s going on in their lives? The person who cuts us off in traffic, the one who seems grumpy at the grocery store, or the coworker who barely says a word. They might be dealing with something we know absolutely nothing about.
We’re all walking around with our own stories and our own reasons for being the way we are on any given day.
So maybe we could all use a little more patience and kindness, a lot less judgment, and yes, a ton of compassion.
Friends and family, like I said, compassion is a loaded word. And with reason. But we’re doomed without it.
Who knew that sitting around waiting for a doctor could give me something to think about besides how long it was taking?
Just a little something to be grateful for this Thursday. 😊
What are you thankful for today?
Until next Thursday’s post…si Dios quiere.
“Compassion is not just a word. It’s a way of being. It’s not just a concept. It’s love in action.”
